About the iPad

The iPad is a range of tablet computers designed and developed by Apple focusing on audio visual media which includes books, movies, games, music and web connecting. The iPad tablets size and weight is categorised in between modern day smartphones and laptop computers. It operates on the same operating system as the iPod Touch and the iPhone, it can also run its own applications as well as iPhone applications these applications is distributed by the Apple App Store.

The iPad is operated by a multi touch display which measures 9.7 inches. With the Wi-Fi and in some models added 3G you can browse the internet download apps and music buy eBooks online, send and receive emails and so much more. The world is literally at your fingertips.

The first iPad was released in April 2010 and over 3 million devices were sold in 80 days. When the iPad 2 was released in March 2011 it sold more than 15 million which was more iPad tablets sold than all other tablet PC sales combined.

History

The first tablet computer released by apple was the Newton Message Pad 100. Other prototypes have been developed but were never released. Several other Newton Massage pads were developed with the last being the Message Pad 2100. Apple decided to re-enter the mobile computing market and released the first iPhone with multi touch screen display with a camera and Apple’s iOS operating system. Rumours of an Apple iPad release were still circling by late 2009 and the first iPad was only announced by Steve Jobs in January 2010.

iPad First Generation

The Apple iPad was at first only available in the US and was only sold online at the Apple Store and the Apple retail locations. Since then the iPad is available for purchase on many different retailers online as well as in electronic stores. The iPad first generation does not have a camera, is slightly larger than the iPad 2 and weighs more than the iPad 2 as well. The iPad first generation was well received by the public and sold more than Macs for the Fiscal Quarter.

iPad 2

The iPad 2 was unveiled on the 2nd of March 2011 by Steve Jobs even though he was on medical leave. The iPad2 is 33% thinner than the first generation iPad with a better processor which is twice as fast as its predecessor. The iPad 2 also received a front and back camera that supports FaceTime video calling. Same as the First generation iPad it also had a 10 hour battery life with similar pricing.

iPad Usage

The iPad which is mostly used by consumers is also being incorporated into businesses.
